Elastane, sold as spandex in the US and under the Lycra trademark, is a petroleum-derived synthetic added for stretch. It degrades with heat and time, often before the fabric around it. Every piece below declares a fiber composition with no elastane at all: any give comes from the weave and cut, not an added stretch fiber. We check declared composition, not marketing copy.
What else should you know about Elastane-Free Clothing?
Are spandex and Lycra the same as elastane?
Yes. Elastane is the generic fiber name used in the EU, spandex is the US name, and Lycra is a brand of it. A label listing any of the three means the same synthetic fiber, and this page lists only pieces whose declared composition contains none of them.
How do you verify a piece has no elastane?
We read each product's declared fiber composition (the regulated percentages brands must state) and list only pieces that declare no elastane and reach at least 90% natural content. Pieces without a declared composition are never shown here.
Why avoid elastane?
Common reasons: skin sensitivity to synthetics; longevity, since elastane loses its recovery and causes bagging before natural fibers wear out; and keeping clothing free of plastics. Elastane-free pieces rely on the weave and cut for ease of movement instead.
